What We Do

Together, we are making homes safe and accessible.

Most of us take our homes for granted. We expect sturdy porches, roofs that don't leak, steps with safe railings, floors that aren't caved in. But it's not that simple for far too many residents of Rutherford County.  That's when RHP steps in, providing materials and securing volunteers to make urgently needed repairs. First Baptist Church of Lyman, SC, for example, rebuilt the unsafe porch and steps below, and replaced rotten flooring inside caused by a leaky hot water heater.

It's the kind of venture for which RHP was recognized in 2010 by the N.C. Center for Nonprofits. Of particular note were our collaborations with other local agencies and volunteers to get the best possible outcome at the best possible cost for those living in substandard housing throughout Rutherford County.

Our History

It all began with a group of concerned citizens.

Rutherford Housing Partnership (RHP) came into existence in 1995 when a group of community leaders identified the pressing need for home repairs in Rutherford County. The leaders, representing Yokefellow Service Center and Pisgah Legal Services, formed a committee that helped create RHP as a non-profit organization in February of 1998. RHP's mission from the start was to raise funds for materials and rely on volunteers to provide labor for repairs. As the organization grew, it partnered with church groups, local companies, and civic organizations to tackle more repair jobs. Today, RHP is proud to have completed 148 repair projects in 2025, reducing substandard housing in Rutherford County. Despite these accomplishments, the need for safe and secure housing in the area continues to grow, and RHP remains dedicated to transforming lives through home repairs.

RHP’s volunteers are a vital part of our mission, consisting of generous community members and dedicated groups who share our commitment to safe and secure housing. Our volunteer network includes the Multidenominational Coalition of Clergy (MDCC), the Women Roofers, students from NC State University, participants in NC Works, members of the Christian Church of Virginia, and many more. Together, these individuals and organizations help transform lives by contributing their time, skills, and passion to home repair projects across Rutherford County.
